One of the questions we hear from readers is whether our books are available in paperback. While some of Sevastian Winters’ books will soon become available in print, not every book will eventually have a paperback edition.
The good news? You don’t have to own a Kindle to read a Kindle book.
Amazon offers free Kindle reading apps that work on many of the devices you already use every day. Whether you have an iPhone, an Android phone, an iPad, a tablet, or a computer, you can enjoy thousands of Kindle ebooks—including Sevastian’s—without purchasing a dedicated Kindle reader.
And getting started is easier than you might think.
A Kindle book is simply an electronic book, often called an ebook, but in this case specifically sold by Amazon. Instead of being printed on paper, it’s delivered digitally so you can read it on a screen.
Think of it as a regular book that lives on your phone, tablet, or computer.
You can turn pages, bookmark your place, adjust the size of the text, and pick up where you left off. You don’t have to worry about losing your page, and you can carry an entire library with you wherever you go.
Best of all, the Kindle reading apps are completely free. While they are awesome, you DO NOT have to buy an actual Kindle device to read Kindle books. You can simply pay for the books you choose to purchase, but you don’t have to pay to download or use the app.
Let’s look at the different ways you can read.
If you own an Apple iPhone or iPad, you can download the free Kindle app from Apple’s App Store.

One important thing to know: You generally cannot purchase Kindle ebooks directly inside the Kindle app on an iPhone or iPad.
Instead, you’ll purchase the book through Amazon’s website.
Tap the book’s cover to download it and start reading!
If you use a Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, or another Android phone or tablet, you can use the free Kindle app, too.

As with Apple devices, the simplest way to purchase Kindle books on Android is through Amazon’s website.
If it doesn’t appear immediately, give it a moment and refresh your library.
Unfortunately, the Kindle app for Desktop is no longer supported for Windows users.
Apple Mac users aren’t left out!
Amazon also offers a Kindle reading application for compatible Mac computers.

Just like on other devices, you can purchase Kindle editions through Amazon’s website and then read them in the Kindle app.
Don’t want to install another app? You may not have to!
Amazon offers a browser-based reading service called Kindle for Web, which lets you read supported Kindle books right from an internet browser.
This can be especially convenient if you’re using a shared computer, don’t have permission to install software, or simply prefer to keep things uncomplicated.
That’s it! No Kindle device required, and no separate application to install.
Keep in mind that browser compatibility and book availability can vary. If a particular book doesn’t open in Kindle for Web, try one of the free Kindle apps instead.
Yes. To purchase Kindle books and access your Kindle library, you’ll need an Amazon account.
But here’s the good news: You don’t need a special Kindle account or an Amazon Prime membership.
If you’ve ever ordered something from Amazon, you probably already have an account you can use.
If you’re new to Amazon, you can create a free account on its website.
Once you’re signed in, you can purchase Kindle books and access them through your compatible reading devices.
Absolutely! In fact, this is one of the biggest advantages of reading ebooks, especially for readers who struggle with small print.
Most Kindle reading apps allow you to customize your reading experience.
Depending on your device, you can:
To adjust your reading settings, open a book, tap or click near the top of the page, and look for the Aa or text settings menu.
You can experiment until you find a setup that feels comfortable.
Yes, in most Kindle apps!
Once you’ve purchased a Kindle book and downloaded it to your phone, tablet, or computer, you can generally read it without being connected to the internet.
That makes Kindle books particularly convenient for travel, waiting rooms, vacations, or anywhere your internet connection might be unreliable.
You’ll need an internet connection to purchase and initially download your books. You’ll also need to reconnect periodically if you want to synchronize your reading progress across multiple devices.
In many cases, yes!
For example, you might start reading a book on your iPad in the evening and continue reading on your phone the following morning.
As long as you’re signed into the same Amazon account and your devices are connected to the internet, Kindle can synchronize your reading progress through a feature called Whispersync.
That means you can often pick up right where you left off, even when switching devices.
Don’t worry. There are a few simple things to check.
First, make sure you’re signed into the Kindle app using the same Amazon account you used to purchase the book.
Next, check that you’re viewing All books in your library rather than only those already downloaded.
If the book still doesn’t appear, refresh or sync your Kindle library while connected to the internet.
You can also check your Amazon account’s digital orders to confirm the purchase was completed.
Remember, purchasing a Kindle book doesn’t mean you need to buy it again for every device. Your eligible purchases are associated with your Amazon account.
The words and stories are generally the same, but the reading experience is different.
With a paperback, you’re holding a physical book. With a Kindle edition, you’re reading the book on a digital screen.
Both have their advantages, and we know many readers love the feeling of turning real pages.
But Kindle editions also offer some wonderful conveniences: adjustable text sizes, portability, immediate delivery, and the ability to carry multiple books without adding weight to your bag.
And for books that aren’t available in paperback, Kindle editions make it possible to enjoy stories you might otherwise miss.
We know that many of Sevastian’s readers prefer traditional books, and we completely understand. There’s something special about holding a paperback, turning the pages, and adding a finished book to your shelf.
We’re continuing to expand our book offerings, including print editions where practical. However, not every Sevastian Winters book will be released in paperback.
We don’t want that to prevent anyone from enjoying his stories.
Whether you prefer your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, there are free and convenient ways to enjoy Kindle editions without purchasing a Kindle device.
And once you have your reading app set up, you’re ready to explore everything from short stories and thrillers to fantasy, drama, historical fiction, and reimagined classics.
Ready to find your next great read?
Visit the Sevastian Winters website to explore his available titles, and look for the Kindle edition of the book you’d like to read.
Happy reading!
